101 Devotionals for Boys #68

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one is based on a story from With Two Hands: Stories of God at Work in Ethiopia (Hidden Heroes #1).

***************

“Who will go be a missionary to the tribal people of your own nation?” the speaker asked the Ethiopian Christians.  “Who will answer Christ’s call?”

Many young men volunteered. But one of them, Fanta, was a cripple. “God has called me to the violent Oromo tribe beside Lake Abaya,” he said.

“No, you can’t go!” answered the missionaries. “You’re a cripple! They’ll kill you!”

“I must go,” said Fanta. “I’m happy to give my life, but God has called me.”

Who knew that the Oromo tribe honored cripples? Through Fanta’s preaching, many of them came to Christ.

In Philippians 4:13, Paul wrote,

“I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.”

That verse doesn’t mean you’ll be able to flap your arms and fly, or get away with sin. It means that, like Fanta, if God calls you to do something for Him, you can be sure He’ll enable you to accomplish the work He has called you to do.

Lord Jesus, help me to listen to Your call for me. Help me to trust You to strengthen me to do the work You’ve called me to do.
