101 Devotionals for Boys #71

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one is based on a story from The Good News Must Go Out: True Stories of God at Work in the Central African Republic (Hidden Heroes #2).

***************

Mako and his people had memorized the gospel of John, but they longed for more teaching. “Oh God, send us someone who can read and teach the Bible!” they prayed.

Months and months passed. The people recited the gospel of John. They sang. And they prayed. “Oh God, send us one to teach us!”

One afternoon Mako began to sob. “O faithful God!” he cried. “I’ve trusted You! But I’ve asked You for so long to send us someone to teach us more about You, and You haven’t! What shall I do?” His body shook with sobbing.

Suddenly Mako saw a man standing there with a Bible. It was a missionary, come to teach them. “Oh God!” he cried. “Forgive me! I doubted Your love! But all along You had someone prepared to come. Oh thank You, God!!”

Sometimes waiting for God to do His important work can seem very long. But we can trust that He is always working.

Jesus prayed, “The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one . . . so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.” ~John 17:22-23

Dear Father, Thank You that You delight for the world to know You and Your great love. Help me to be faithful in prayer for people like Mako who need others to come and help them.
