101 Devotionals for Boys #62

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one is based on a story from Return of the White Book: True Stories of God at Work in Southeast Asia (Hidden Heroes #4).

***************

George Boardman lived and worked in a very difficult environment in Burma, without comforts of home. He died there when he was only thirty.

If George had stayed in America, he might have lived comfortably many more years. Why would anybody do something so foolish?

Jesus said in Luke 9:24-25,

“For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?”

You can’t keep your life—you’ll die one day anyway. If you give your life for Christ, then He’ll give you spiritual rewards, which can never be lost.

George Boardman was no fool. The last thing he saw was many new Karen Christians being baptized in the river. Some of his last words were, “Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, for my eyes have seen Your salvation!”

Dear Father, thank You that You offer treasures that can never be lost. Help me to remember what’s really important.
