If you were going to preach to someone who had never heard the gospel before, what Scriptures would you choose?
George Boardman preached to the Karen people of Chikku with simple gospel messages. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.” “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.” “Come unto Me all you who labor, and I will give you rest.”
The gospel isn’t complicated. God made it very simple. God gave His only Son for you. He wants you to believe in Him to be saved. If you do come to Jesus Christ, you will find rest for your soul. Rest from trying to please God through works, and rest from trying to find happiness any other way. In Jesus Christ you can find a safe place. He will always love you, have compassion on you, and be glad to be with you.
Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” ~Matthew 11:28-30
Thank You, God, that Your gospel is simple and beautiful. Thank you that I can be filled with hope when I think about finding rest in Jesus Christ.
