101 Devotionals for Boys #49

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Living Water in the Desert: True Stories of God at Work in Iran (Hidden Heroes #6).

***************

“Hossein, you need to go to Bible school,” his Christian friends told him. “The American missionary, William Miller, is teaching one in Mashhad.”

“Bible school?” Hossein thought. It was like a dream. Getting to spend all day every day learning the Bible?

“But I can’t do it,” he said. “I don’t have any money. How would I pay for a place to stay? How would I buy food?”

“Christians in the United States are sending money to William Miller,” his friend said. “They want to help people in Iran learn the Bible. All of your needs would be supplied.”

It sounded too good to be true, but it wasn’t. Hossein went to Bible school in Mashhad. Day after day, he was able to “arise and eat” of the Word of God, learning and understanding who Jesus Christ really is and who he was as a Christian. He went on to become a great evangelist and pastor in his land.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” ~II Corinthians 9:6-7

God, thank you that the money we send to missionaries is used to help train people to take the gospel to others in their land. Help me to remember to continue to give as I can.
