101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Witness Men: True Stories of God at Work in Papua, Indonesia (Hidden Heroes #3).

***************

As the son of a witchdoctor, Siud was supposed to learn all the ways of the spirits. But Siud hated those spirits. They were spirits of fear and death and horror and hatred.

Siud stood on a mountain peak looking out over the river, out beyond the mountains. “There must be a spirit who loves,” he thought. “There must be.”

He listened to the sound of the raging river below him. “If my people find out what I’m thinking, they’ll throw me in the river. But someday I’m going to find that Spirit who loves, and He’s the one I’ll follow.”

Years later, when a kind missionary came, Siud thought he might be the Spirit who loves. But Phil Masters told him about the true God who sent His Son, Jesus Christ. Siud found out that the Spirit who loves was also more powerful than all the other spirits. He learned to love Him and talk to Him in prayer.

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” ~I John 4:16

Thank You, Lord, that You are the Spirit who loves. Thank You that I can talk to You in prayer, and that You care about me.
