101 Devotionals for Boys #34

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Witness Men: True Stories of God at Work in Papua, Indonesia (Hidden Heroes #3).

***************

The tribal people burned the magic charms that connected them with the evil spirits. They said they wanted to be Christians. But the men still shook their long hair so the women would admire them. On their way to the church meeting, they broke into wild dancing and sang their old songs about chopping their enemies into little pieces.

Have you ever known anyone like that? Someone who said they were a Christian but talked about doing things that seemed very opposite to Christianity?

Maybe some of the men of the tribe wanted to change, but they were afraid to, thinking that they needed to be like all the other men, or like the leaders. Peer pressure happens all over the world.

Sometimes it’s hard to follow Christ fully when people around you aren’t doing it. But it’s worth it. God hates hypocrisy, but He loves a heart that follows Him completely.

“Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart.” ~Psalm 119:2

Dear God, please help me to follow You with my whole heart, even when people around me aren’t.
