101 Devotionals for Boys #33

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from With Two Hands:  Stories of God at Work in Ethiopia (Hidden Heroes #1).

***************

Dick McLellan stuffed the old recording into his backpack. Twenty years earlier, this recording of the gospel story had been made in an unknown language of Ethiopia. The young man whose voice had been recorded had died shortly after, and no one could find the tribe he belonged to.

Then one day, when Dick was walking through the jungle, he took a wrong turn, leading him to a tribe hidden far away in the jungle, secluded from everyone. He found that the tribe’s language was the same one as this twenty-year-old recording. When they heard the gospel in their own language, many of them believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sometimes the work of God can seem slow and long. But God’s ways are not like our ways, and He is not in a hurry. He is accomplishing His good work in our lives and around the world, as long as we keep trusting in Him to do it.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” ~Isaiah 55:8-9

Lord, show me how to trust You even when Your ways seem slow or confusing. Thank You that You always know what You’re doing.
