101 Devotionals for Boys #32

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Lights in a Dark Place: True Stories of God at Work in Colombia (Hidden Heroes #5).

***************

Four-year-old Russell Stendal and his dad were reading a picture book. It showed how a people group in South America lived. The men spent all their money to get drunk, and the women and children had nothing to eat.

“Someone needs to go tell those people about Jesus!” Russell said. “We can do it.”

His dad looked around at the comfortable living room and said, “But God has to call someone to be a missionary.”

Russell kneeled down and prayed loudly, “God, please call my parents to be missionaries right now! I don’t want to have to wait till I grow up to tell those Indians about Jesus!”

And God did. Four years later the Stendal family landed in South America to be missionaries and began the adventure of a lifetime.

Comforts don’t have to keep you from doing what God has called you to do. You can value the adventure of following God more than earthly comforts.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” ~II Corinthians 1:3-4

Father, thank You for the important work You call Your people to. Help me to value the comfort You offer more than the comforts I can see.
