101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one is based on a story from Witness Men: True Stories of God at Work in Papua, Indonesia (Hidden Heroes #3).
***************
What would it be like to live in a group of people who honor lying and deceit?
When Don Richardson went to the Sawi tribe of Indonesia, he found out. They told him about the men who were the best deceivers. The best kind of deceit, to them, was getting the enemy to think he was his friend, and then killing him. They laughed and laughed about those stories. But they lived in fear that their enemies would do the same to them.
This sounds shocking, but there are people like this in your own country. They would love to make you think they care about you, when really they’re your enemy. This is the way Satan works.
When the Sawi tribe believed the gospel, they became honest and trustworthy and no longer lived in fear. Jesus wants this of us—it doesn’t matter if our enemies are lying and deceiving. We want to be honest and trustworthy like Jesus.
“Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight.” ~Proverbs 12:22
Lord, help me to live faithfully and speak truthfully. Help me to live a life of honesty instead of deceit.
