101 Devotionals for Boys #47

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from The Good News Must Go Out: Stories of God at Work in the Central African Republic (Hidden Heroes #2).

***************

When God called the Laird family to be missionaries to cannibals in Africa, they drove the three hundred miles to the new outpost.

But Kongi the goat boy walked those three hundred miles with the herd of goats.

Kongi knew and cared about those goats—he may well have known them all by name, just as Jesus does His sheep. Kongi knew how to care for them, when they needed feeding, milking, and watering.

Do you suppose the way may have been rough and hard and hot and tiring? The goats didn’t understand why they had to leave their old home. But Kongi understood, and he led them safely all the way to their new home.

In the same way, Jesus leads us, even when we don’t know where we’re going. Along the way, it may seem confusing and difficult, but we can trust that He knows best and is leading us to a safe place.

“He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.” ~Isaiah 40:11

Thank You, Lord, that You care for Your flock. Help me to trust You when the way seems unclear.
