101 Devotionals for Boys #46

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from With Two Hands:  Stories of God at Work in Ethiopia (Hidden Heroes #1).

***************

Lying in the hospital were two men. One was a rich coffee trader; the other was Kebede, a poor man. The coffee trader knew Kebede’s language, so he could translate for the Christians who gave the gospel. Kebede believed in Jesus and was saved.

But the coffee trader wasn’t interested and went on his way, trusting in his riches.

These men were like the men Jesus told about in Matthew 7:24-27. Jesus said,

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Then the terrible storms came, “but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.” Then the terrible storms came, “and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

In the end, riches can never save you. Only Jesus Christ can save.

Lord Jesus, help me to trust in You alone for all my salvation. Help me to trust You for my eternal salvation, and moment by moment as You save me from sin.
