101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Lights in a Dark Place: True Stories of God at Work in Colombia (Hidden Heroes #5).

***************

The revolutionary boasted to his prisoner, missionary Russell Stendal.  “Communism will free all countries and solve all the world’s problems. Then everyone in the world will have enough to eat, and we’ll eliminate disease and poverty.”

But Russell didn’t believe him. “You’re using murder and robbery and terrorism to try to bring world peace?” he asked. “I haven’t done anything wrong, but you’re holding me prisoner and you might kill me. How can you sow injustice and expect to reap justice? How can you sow bad things and expect to reap good things?”

Russell was referring to what the apostle Paul wrote in Galatians. This is true for you too. How can you expect to do wrong, without paying a price someday? How can you expect to get away with evil? You cannot. God sees and knows, and He will repay. Instead, live of life of repentance, coming to your senses every day to live in the light of God.

“Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.” ~Galatians 6:7-8

God, sometimes Your law of sowing and reaping seems hard. But it’s a good law, and so I thank You for it. Help me to come to my senses every day and turn to You, so that I can sow to the Spirit and reap eternal life.
