101 Devotionals for Boys #53

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Lights in a Dark Place: True Stories of God at Work in Colombia (Hidden Heroes #5).

***************

“I was wrong,” Russell Stendal said. “I shouldn’t have said I didn’t have a gun. It was wrong to lie.”

Communist revolutionaries had taken him prisoner in the jungles of Colombia. But now they looked at him in surprise. He was admitting that he had done something wrong? He was saying it was wrong to lie? They lied all the time, and they expected everyone else to lie too. This man was very different, that was for sure!

You don’t have to be perfect to tell others about Jesus. But you do have to be a person who is willing to confess your sins and want to truly change, by the power of God.

The revolutionaries began to listen to Russell when he talked to them about God. One after another, they began to believe and trust in Him, more and more. Russell’s life made the difference, just as much as his message of hope in Jesus Christ.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” ~I John 1:9

Dear God, thank You for Russell Stendal’s example of honest confession and repentance. Help me to confess my wrongs to You and to the people my wrongs have affected. Help me to repent and change, through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.
