101 Devotionals for Boys #30

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from With Two Hands:  Stories of God at Work in Ethiopia (Hidden Heroes #1).

***************

Dick McLellan and his friend Setta were taking the gospel to a far village of Ethiopia. It was a hard trek of many hours in terrible heat, climbing up a steep mountain, scrambling over rocks, and down the other side. Then they came to the violently rushing river. How would they ever cross?

Sometimes the way that God calls us can be long and hard and discouraging.

“Satan is trying to stop us!” Setta cried. “There must be a great victory ahead!”

They made it across the river. At the village, they saw God do a mighty work of salvation—even in the murderous witchdoctor! Then Dick was no longer sorry he had made that long, hard trek. He was no longer discouraged.

You can have great hope too, as you follow Jesus, even though your journey may sometimes seem long and hard. Don’t give up. Remember if you feel discouraged in His way, He has victory ahead!

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. ~Psalm 32:8

Thank you, Father, that You lead Your people in the way You want us to go. Help me to trust You when the way seems hard.
