101 Devotionals for Boys #3

101 Devotionals for Boys from the Lives of Great Christians and 101 Devotionals for Girls from the Lives of Great Christians will both be published in 2017. We’re publishing one or two devotionals a week to give you a taste of what you’ll get in those two gift books. This one  is based on a story from Witness Men: Stories of God at Work in Papua, Indonesia (Hidden Heroes #3).

***************

For five days Don Gibbons and Gordon Larson slogged through soggy marshes, scrambled over rocky cliffs, and trudged through freezing rain to get to a remote tribe. They had prepared in other ways for years.

But even after they got there, they had to keep working. First they had to build a hut. Then they had to clear land for an airstrip in this mountainous area. They chopped down trees and used levers to push the large rocks out of the way. They used shovels and axes to hack at the hard dirt. They dug up grass, moved loads of mud, and dumped loads of dirt to fill in the ruts to make a smooth path.

Does all that sound exhausting? Sometimes the work of God can be very hard. But they wanted to give these people the good news of the God who loved them and sent His Son to die for them. The hard work was worth it.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” ~Galatians 6:9

Lord, thank You that I can have a part in the gospel going out so that people can know You. Help me to be willing to work hard in Your service. Help me not to be lazy.
